Advice I ACTUALLY use everyday
- Tam Carrington

As a new mum, I got a lot of advice - some of it helpful, and some… not so much! 😅
I’m a firm believer in taking what works for you and leaving what doesn’t.
These three pieces of advice made a huge difference in my early parenting journey, and I still use them every single day:
1. You and your partner are a team.
Whether it’s sharing baby duties, supporting each other emotionally, or tackling household tasks, remember that you’re in this together. Communicate often, lean on each other, and find your rhythm as a team.
It’s not about keeping score - it’s about working together and checking in regularly so you can support each other through the highs and lows. Parenting is so much smoother when you’re on the same page.
2. Rest when you’re able.
We’ve all heard the phrase, “Sleep when the baby sleeps,” but let’s be honest - it’s not always achievable. Instead, focus on finding moments to rest, however that looks for you.
Maybe it’s a quick nap, sitting down with a cup of tea, or just putting your feet up for five minutes. Rest is essential for recovery, so take time for yourself whenever you can.
3. Have realistic expectations.
There’s no such thing as a “perfect” parent, and every family will do things differently. Some days will go smoother than others, and that’s okay!
Release the pressure to do it all. It’s not about perfection or ticking off every item on your to-do list - it’s about getting through the day and being present for yourself and your baby.
These reminders have been so helpful for me, and I hope they can help you too. Remember, you’re doing an incredible job, even on the tough days.
All the best,
Tam xx
